Abstract

The objectives of the project are: 1) To compare the relative abilities of phagocytic cells isolated from scrape susceptible and resistant sheep to take up and degrade PrPSc in vitro. 2) To verify the relevance of in vitro observations by determining which cell types in afferent lymph draining the site of inoculation have taken up PrPSc following experimental infection of susceptible and resistant sheep. 3) To compare the initial localisation and persistence of PrPSc in the drainage lymph nodes of susceptible and resistant sheep.
