Abstract
The main objectives of this project are: 1. Improve the inhibitory potency of an RGD-containing peptide for the blockade of virus/integrin interactions; 2. Determine the ability of a8ß1 to function as a receptor for FMDV; 3. Undertake an analysis of the level of integrin expression in pig epithelia during the early-phase of lesion development; 4. Investigate the integrin receptors used by non-type O FMDV serotypes; 5. Investigate the viral determinants of host cell lysis.
