Abstract

This project will improve our ability to detect animals that have been infected with FMD virus including those that are persistent vial carriers, regardless of their vaccinal status. This will be achieved by: 1) validation of a test for the detection of FMD-specific IgA in saliva; 2) refinement of a gamma interferon test to detect FMD infected animals in vaccinated herds; 3)development of monoclonal antibodies to non-structural proteins of FMDV; 4) alternative format tests for FMD virus non-structural antibody detection; 5) establishing seroconversion rates in sheep flocks affected with FMD in 2001; 6) establishing seroconversion rates in FMD vaccinated and infected animals.
