To provide the Animal Health and Welfare Directorate with: (1) Capacity to provide rapid diagnosis using currently accepted tests; (2) Capacity to provide an emergency response; (3) Reporting and interpretation of diagnostic tests used to identify the diseases or causative agent; (4) Source of expert advice on control of the disease and on the international situation; (5) Specific surveillance if appropriate; (6) National and international reference laboratory services.
