Abstract

This project will allow 1. A better evaluation of the BSE transmission risk from infected cattle or cattle sub-product to sheep; 2. To assess the possibility of the spreading of an accidentally transmitted BSE in sheep through vertical and horizontal pathway; 3. To evaluate our ability to detect a BSE strain when sub-passaged in sheep; 4. To estimate the potential danger for human health of such BSE strain adapted in sheep; 5. To validate definitively the use of genetic selection to control scrapie and BSE agent spread in sheep.
