Abstract

1) To analyse the role of FMDV L and 3C proteases and enterovirus 2A protease on cap-dependent and IRES-dependent translation initiation. 2) To determine sites in translation initiation factor eIF4GI and eIF4GII cleaved by FMDV and enterovirus proteases within cells. 3) To determine role of residue 20 of the SVDV 2A protease in virus growth and pathogenicity. 4) To determine properties of the novel teschovirus IRES in vitro and within cells.
