Abstract

The aim of this project is to use organotypic hippocampal slice cultures and the mouse PrP 106-126 to develop an in vitro model of TSE induced neurodegeneration. Following exposure of the slices to PrP106-126 or control peptide, neurotoxicity mechanisms will be analysed by immunocytochemistry and Western blot. The project will allow the student to develop a variety of experimental techniques including organotypic slice tissue culture, immunocytochemistry, Western blotting and apoptotic assay. All the techniques are currently being used in this laboratory.
