Abstract

The determinants of restricted replication of two HPAI viruses in mouse and human cells through the use of reverse genetics will be studied. From these experiments we hope to define regions of influenza virus polypeptides that are involved in interaction will cellular polypeptides. We also will examine replication of avian influenza viruses in early passage bovine cells to determine which influenza virus genes facilitate replication in these cells. We will determine if it is the same influenza virus gene that controls abortive infection of certain avian influenza viruses in human and mouse cells.
