Abstract

The overall objective of the group is the isolation of disease resistance genes and development of methods to use these genes to increase resistance to disease in commercial poultry. The principal objective of this next phase of work will be the isolation and identification of the disease resistance genes we have mapped, leading on to their utilisation in commercial selection. At the same time work will continue to map further resistance genes as well as to add candidate resistance genes to the genomic map by identifying and mapping further chicken immunological and disease-related genes as efficiently as possible.
