Abstract
Aspartyl proteinases have been targeted for therapeutic intervention in a number of disease states. In order to determine whether aspartyl proteinases are also a good target for control of Eimeria infections, there is a need for further understanding and elucidation of the role of the proteinase in this parasite. This project aims to study key features of the proteinase including the maturation and trafficking of the protein within the parasite, the substrate specificity and inhibitor profiles of the enzyme activity and the potential function of the enzyme during parasite infection.
