Abstract
The project would make use of the genome segment reassortants which are already available between AHSV 3 and AHSV 8 (alpha and gamma groups respectively) to analyse the role of NS3 in dissemination within the insect. The possibility that the vector status of the insect may be under genetic control of both the insect and the virus itself will be examined. Expressed proteins and antisera will be used to look for polarised expression of NS3 in the gut and salivary gland cell walls. It may also be possible to "type" AHSV NS3 or NS3 antibodies in field samples for epidemiological studies, using these reagents.
