Abstract

The project is designed to examine the functional role for T cell subsets and effector mechanisms in mice rendered completely immune to E. vermiformis. To date, Isabelle has begun to define the capacity to transfer immunity with splenic cells from various gene knockout mice. The initial transfer experiments have defined a clear difference between protection against parasite replication, the induction of enteric pathology and the role of IFNg in this relationship. These studies are in their earliest stages but the strategies show considerable promise and should further define the important cell types and effector molecules in the immune animal.
