Abstract
The objectives of this project are: 1. To determine the structure of FMDV in complex with integrin receptors, and fragments thereof, by cryoelectron microscopy and, if possible, by crystallography, 2. To determine structures of non-O serotype strains in complex with HS/heparin and other GAGs in order to assess the structural conservation of high- affinity GAG-binding among FMDVs and 3. To understand structural requirements for integrin binding by FMDV by site-directed mutagenesis of the RGD loop.
