Abstract

The commission will determine the relative stability of infectivity in samples of nvCJD and BSE and compare these with known properties of scrapie. The commission will also explore the best combinations of heat and chemical treatments to inactivate TSEs and attempt to correlate inactivation methods to known biochemical properties of the TSE strains. Overall the commission aims to underpin inactivation of TSEs by further understanding the processes involved.
