Abstract
The objectives are: (a) to determine the relationship between the deposition of abnormal PrP, synapse loss, dendritic spine loss and neuron loss in two murine scrapie models. (b) to develop a reliable, consistent means of estimating synapse number in CNS tissue. (c) to establish whether fundamental pathological changes found in murine scrapie also occur in ovine scrapie, BSE and CJD, and establish their relationship to clinical disease.
