Abstract

The aims of the project are to investigate how the transition between the cellular and scrapie forms of the prion protein propagates between cultured neural cells and within neurones. This should lead to a detailed understanding of some of the interactions that mediate PrP- Sc deposition and hence affect pathogenesis. In the longer term this work may also provide test systems for agents which inhibit propagation.
