Abstract

The main objective is to develop an effective treatment process (including the specification of equipment) for the decontamination of infected pig farm animal wastes; it is anticipated that the technology would be suitable for a range of pathogens and animals but the main effort including process verification will be directed to the specific viruses - swine vesicular disease and African swine fever. The research will be equally divided between the two partners with the engineering aspects being studied by Silsoe Research Institute and the microbiological input coming from IAH. The product of the research programme will be a fully specified and tested process effective in destroying the named pathogens.
