Abstract

The pre-bursal stages of chicken B-cell development, during which immunoglobulin genes are rearranged, is developmentally restricted and clearly regulated differently than the equivalent stages ion mammals. The aim of this project is to use bacteriophage-display antibody libraries to identify novel cell surface markers expressed during pre- bursal development, that may be involved in its regulation. Different selection strategies with embryonic pre- bursal B- cells have yielded distinct bacteriophage antibodies that all recognise overlapping epitopes. The antigen recognised has a novel pattern of expression during B-cell ontogeny. The antibodies are being used for biochemical characterisation and expression cloning of the encoding cDNA.
