Abstract

Inbred cattle expressing single MHC class I haplotypes are being used to assess the functional implications of observed variations in class I expression. Detailed analysis of complete class I haplotypes (including gene cloning, sequencing and expression studies) is ongoing. T cell response studies in relation to pathogens such as bovine RSV and Theileria parva are utilising MHC class I molecules characterised to the level of peptide binding capability. MHC transfectants are used in various capacities to determine the specificity of CTL clones, which can allow identification of suitable pathogen encoded proteins for incorporation into vaccines.
