Abstract

Bovine virus diarrhoea virus, a member of the Flaviviridae, infection of cattle results in a variety of pathologies. An increased susceptibility to secondary infection has reported following infection with the virus and a transient immunosuppression. Bovine virus diarrhoea virus replicates in the hosts antigen presenting cells. This study is testing the hypothesis that infection of macrophages and dendritic cells alters the function of the cell and compromises their ability to stimulate T cells and will investigate the molecular basis for such an effect.
