Abstract

This study of the complex fowlpox virus focuses on two major areas. One is a comparison of the assembly of fowlpox virus in permissive avian cells with the abortive assembly in mammalian cells, which are non-permissive. The other area is the role, in virus replication and survival, of unusual fowlpox homologues of cellular genes, especially the homologues of glycoprotein PC-1 (an exo-nucleotide phosphodiesterase), SNAP (involved in vesicle transport of proteins) and DNase II. The work will involve homologous over-expression of native and tagged proteins and generation of virus knock-out mutants by recombination.
