Abstract
By using the defective viruses that we have accumulated in our earlier work our aim is to investigate whether an intracellular stage of a pathway that leads to virion assembly which may be inhibited in a segment-specific manner can be demonstrated. To use the drug 4- Guanidino-Neu5Ac2en to investigate the details of the interaction of the haemagglutinin and neuraminidase glycoproteins in tissue culture. To collaborate with Drs I Brown and D Alexander of the Veterinary Laboratories Agency on the genetic characterisation of these new swine influenza viruses which are likely to be of epidemiological significance.
