Abstract
Within recent years, infectious bursal disease (IBD; Gumboro disease) has twice posed serious threats to the poultry industry world-wide. In order to predict the nature of antibody resistance mutations that may be selected in practise, precise antigenic epitopes need to be identified. This will be performed by the isolation of MAbs, neutralising and non-neutralising, against the VV strain of IBDV (isolate UK661) which we have recently sequenced. Neutralising MAbs will then be used to isolate mutants of tissue-culture adapted UK661 (which will have been sequenced through the antigenic sites). The mutants will then be sequenced to identify mutations responsible for resistance to the MAbs.
