Abstract
As the genetic map of the chicken has developed it has become clear that the extensive conservation of linkage of genes seen between mammalian species extends the chicken. This implies that it should be possible to infer the presence of genes in chickens from equivalent regions in humans or mice, and has important implications for the isolation and identification of genes through genomic mapping in chickens. The principle limitation of this approach at present is the limited number of identified genes mapped in chickens. This project seeks to develop a radiation hybrid panel for the chicken to allow much larger numbers of genes to be added to the genomic map.
