Abstract
This is a BBSRC link grant with professor David Stuart, Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, Oxford University. The project is looking at the structure and organisation of the core particle of bluetongue virus serotypes 1 and 10 by X- ray crystallography. Crystallisation conditions have been established producing large numbers of crystals that diffract to 3.5 . Diffraction data from these crystals is collected at SRF Daresbury and ESRF Grenoble. Crystallisation trials with AHSV particles are also in progress. A model of the two major structural proteins within the native orbivirus core and their organisation has been developed.
