Abstract

"The overall aims of the senescence research programme are to identify and characterise the key genes/proteins that control gene expression during leaf senescence in Arabidopsis and to use these to elucidate the complex signalling networks that operate during senescence. We are using Arabidopsis functional genomics resources to investigate the role of regulator genes that are increased in expression during senescence. Insertion mutants in each gene of interest have been analysed using microarrays to investigate potential changes in gene expression. Genes that appear to be important in signalling pathways in senescence are being targeted for further analysis. The role of these will be assessed using yeast 2 hybrid analysis and detailed characterisation of insertion and overexpression mutants. Promoter studies will be initiated on selected genes to identify the upstream regulators."
