Abstract

"The overall aim is to increase water-use efficiency in plants through control of ABA signalling. Our previous work has shown that over-expression of 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED) results in over-production of ABA and reduced stomatal conductance. This provides an approach to genetically control water use in crop plants. We seek to use plants with higher ABA content (i) to understand the role of ABA in mediating whole plant physiology, including growth, water use and metabolism, and (ii) to investigate the agronomic utility of high ABA plants through analysis of a new generation of plants with more targeted transgene expression"
