Abstract

The long term aims of the programme are to identify and characterise the key genes/proteins that control gene expression during leaf senescence in Arabidopsis and to use these to elucidate the complex signalling networks that operate during senescence. Senescence enhanced genes encoding potential regulatory proteins have been identified from Arabidopsis. A selection of these genes are being functionally characterised using insertion mutants and RNAi lines. Microarray analysis is being used to characterise the effects of the mutation in each gene on gene expression during senescence. Once genes that have a key role in senescence are identified, a few will be chosen for protein:protein interaction analysis to identify interacting proteins.
