Abstract

The aim of this project is to identify and characterise key genes that have a role in regulating leaf senescence in Arabidopsis and Brassica. Senescence enhanced regulatory factors will be identified and their function in senescence assessed by the analysis of insertion mutants and antisense plants. The analysis of known stress response signalling pathways will identify their importance in controlling the onset of senescence. Novel senescence mutants will be identified by the use of a senescence specific promoter/reporter gene fusion in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. Eventually key regulatory genes will be targeted for manipulation in vegetable brassicas.
