Abstract
Our aim is to deliver novel tools that can be used widely by plant scientists. On the way we will exploit these to identify some of the control points for hormone action. In the longer term the project will develop new strategies for manipulating crop productivity and quality. Goals are: To develop and use plant cDNA display cloning to identify novel genes and proteins in hormone signalling, receptor candidates for ABA for example. Part of this work will build upon our determination of the structure of the auxin-binding site of ABP1, modelling of both monocot and dicot structures for example; to establish the biochemical and physiological functions of members of the tomato NCED family, rate- limiting enzymes of the ABA biosynthetic pathway; to assess the contributions of NCED and ZEP to control of ABA biosynthesis in various tissues, and to evaluate the utility of tomato plants having modified ABA concentrations
