Abstract

(a) To analyse altered leaf senescence in mutants, transgenics and other genetic variants in forage, amenity, grain and model plant species; (b) To determine the enzymic, cellular and genetic basis of the unique metabolism and physiology of senescing tissues, with special reference to chlorophyll catabolism and proteolysis in leaves; (c) To clone and evaluate senescence and cell death-related genes; (d) To explore the agronomic and biotechnological benefits of manipulating senescence.
