Abstract

This project is part of EUROFUNG, a large integrated project funded by the EU in the Biotechnology Programme. the IFR project is within the Protein Production part of EUROFUNG. Our aims are to understand at the molecular level the bottlenecks in achieving high secreted yields of target heterologous proteins. We have previously shown that filamentous fungi are excellent hosts for the production of heterologous proteins but that in some cases the yields of protein are low and that this is due to bottlenecks in the secretory pathway. The detailed knowledge we obtain will be used to produce recombinant fungal strains that are improved in their protein secretory pathway.
