Abstract

This project is to investigate the impact of glycosylation on the secretion of proteins by Aspergillus niger. Inhibition of glycosylation of secretory proteins has a direct effect on the transcription of genes that encode folding chaperones and foldases resident in the endoplasmic reticulum of A. niger. These effects will be studied in detail. The work will complement research in the University of Nottingham and IFR which is funded by the European Union to identify and overcome the bottlenecks to secretion of heterologous proteins by filamentous fungi.
