Abstract

The objective of this project is to valorise EC rape seed and sunflower lecithins, currently a by product of seed oil, in high value products for the fermentation and cosmetic industry. Valorisation of these by products should optimise the cost of biocarburants produced form seed-oil and offers a unique alternative for EC lecithin instead of American soya lecithin. The project involves:- a lecithin producer who will prepare the new lecithin mixtures from rape seed and sunflower; a fermentation company who will use the lecithins as the carbon source for the overproduction of the highly active phospholipid carrier PLTP (Phospholipid Transfer Protein) using the fungus Aspergillus oryzae; a cosmetic company who will combine the highly active fungal PLTP with the lecithin products to develop new, natural and efficient cosmetic applications; academic partners (including IFR) who will study the production processes of PLTP and structure function relationships of PLTP and lecithin in relation to membrane biogenesis.
