Abstract
Understanding consumer concerns about genetic engineering applied to food products, how these concerns affect the purchase of products based on these technologies, and how they are affected by information provision, is a major prerequisite for putting the technology to use. Already food companies hesitate to use genetic engineering to manufacture ingredients because they fear negative consumer reactions. The project is designed to bring about knowledge that will lead to a better understanding of consumer reactions, allowing food companies to integrate new technologies into their product development more effectively, and allowing policy makers to base decisions about information on these technologies on considerations of maximal effectiveness in informing consumer's in a way which relates to consumer concerns.
