Abstract

The unique nature of antibody interactions with their targets are being explored with in vivo and in vitro applications. The nature of the IgE and IgG responses to food allergens are being used to define the role of individual allergens in allergy, and to gain further insight into the sensitisation process. Research on the interaction of peptides and peptide epitopes with antibodies will generate opportunities for generation of novel antibodies. A further application of the work is the development of immunological methods of analysis for compounds which are difficult to analyse by alternative procedures and which can be used to study processing- induced changes in structure. Strategies for rational changes in the recognition properties of recombinant antibodies are being pursued, underpinned by modelling of antibody structure.
