Abstract

Within the psychological literature on memory there is growing evidence for a phenomenon called implicit memory. It has been shown that if a series of nonsense shapes is presented at short durations, such that subsequent identification is no better than chance, people will express a preference for the shapes presented over shapes not presented. Thus, although people cannot say which shapes they have seen, they express preference for them. In this project this phenomenon will be examined in relation to foods and alternative theories of implicit memory will be tested.
