Abstract
This project explores nutritional factors that affect the regulation of glucose production by liver. This process is deranged in glucose intolerant and type II diabetic people. Nutritional factors including oxidants and antioxidants are being explored for their impact on the regulation by insulin, and possible counter regulatory hormones, of gluconeogenesis, glycogen synthesis and glucose release. Cell cultures are being used in the first instance with a view to investigations in humans using stable isotopes.
