Abstract

EUROFAN's objective is to build on the success of the Eupropean Yeast Genome Sequencing Network by elucidating the biological functions of 1000 novel Saccharomyces cerevisiae genes discovered by the project to which we contributed almost 80 kb of sequence from chromosome XV. Six open reading frames (ORFs) of unknown function have been selected from one of the chromosome XV containing cosmids which we sequenced. In accordance with Eurofan's regulations all participants have to use the disruption cassette tailored for the ORFs to be disrupted. The disrupted strains to be subjected to a series of tests allowing them to be identified before being distributed to Nodes involved in specific aspects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolsm. A second six pack will be processed when the first has been completed.
