Abstract
Dietary flavonoids have been linked to a reduced risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) but the mechanisms by which these compounds may benefit vascular health remain to be identified. This project will further our understanding of these mechanisms by examining the effects of flavonoid metabolites, found in human plasma, on the activity of all the main cell types involved in the process of atherosclerosis, the primary cause of CVD-related mortality. The project acts in synergy with externally-funded projects and will also provide preliminary data to support future research proposals.
