Abstract
NUGO will ensure rapid and effective exploitation of both established and newly emerging (post) genomic technologies within nutrition research across Europe. This vision will be achieved through the development of programmes for monitoring and evaluating new technologies, optimisation and validation of current and newly adopted nutrigenomic platform technologies, standardisation and harmonisation throughout the Network, sharing and co-ordinated expansion of facilities. Eventually, NUGO aims to create a "virtual nutrigenomics facility centre" among its partners, offering cutting edge (nutri)genomic technology by optimally harmonising and exploiting its major investments in technology. Initial objective include: Establishment of an expert group for innovation monitoring and evaluation and co-ordination of standardisation efforts. Review of the network's current and planned functional genomic research capacities and projection of future requirements both network-wide and at the European level. Development of MIAME/Nut, a set of guidelines defining the minimum descriptors required to interpret unambiguously and potentially reproduce and verify array-based nutrigenomic experiments. Development of a scheme for promoting effective platform technology sharing and dissemination of established expertise. Definition of best experimental practice for microarrays and proteomic experiments.
