Abstract

Host genetic variation in resistance to infection or disease is ubiquitous. It impacts on the epidemiology and control of disease, including the development of effective vaccines, and it enables the breeding of animals for increased resistance. We aim to dissect vertebrate host genetic variation in immunity and resistance to a variety of key endemic diseases. Further, we aim to investigate gene function in host-pathogen interactions and disease resistance, using transgenic technology where appropriate. The objectives of the theme are: To dissect host genetic variation in immunity and disease resistance. To investigate gene function in host-pathogen interactions and disease resistance.
