Abstract
Develop methodology of up-scaling site-specific crop model predictions to conduct regional assessments of the impact of global environmental change. Methods will be based on regression up-scaling and this information will be linked to a simulation model to estimate regional yields. This methodology will be applied to wheat. Objectives 1996 Develop a link between remote sensing and crop simulation models. Method should be based on the analysis remote sensing data and ground truth information for European sites and link this information to the SIRIUS Wheat simulation model to estimate regional yields. 1997 To develop a methodology for interpolation of the LARS stochastic weather generator (LARS- WG) over Great Britain. The parameters of distributions of LARS would be calculated for about 150 sites within GB, where long runs of daily records of observed weather are available. These distributions will be used to calculate a distribution at an unobserved location (a local method). To assess the relationship between rainfall and altitude a thin-spline interpolation of monthly total precipitation will be used to calculate an adjustment coefficient to the distribution at an unobserved location. A thin-spline interpolation will be based on 1500 sites in GB.
