Abstract

The project concerns several aspects of the biological chemistry of terpenoids. These include the synthesis and analysis of terpenes (hormonal and secondary metabolites) and their biosynthetic precursors. In this respect isotope labelled precursors, analogues and affinity ligands are synthesised and used to probe plant proteins involved in biosynthesis and action of gibberellins, abscisic acid and brassinosteroid. Also included in the project is work on the cloning, heterologous expression and biotechnological exploitation of terpene synthases, particularly sesquiterpene and diterpene cyclases that produce high value products for industrial or crop protection uses.
