Abstract
This modelling project focuses on the grassland soil system, studying the processes of interaction between plant shoots, roots, grazing animals, livestock derived organic matter, soil animals including microbes and their consequential affects on the wider environmental systems, particularly water and atmospheres. This project is linked to the SoilCIP (Objective 2), which contributes a thermodynamic element to the modelling. There is also a special grassland rhizosphere systems model that provides the basis for assessing interactions and transfers, draws and interacts with information from the other projects in the 'Grassland, environment and soil systems' Strategic Programme Grant area. The work of this project is generically interactive with the research involved in the other North Wyke Strategic Programme Grant area: 'Delivering Multifunctional Landscapes'.
