Abstract

Efficient transformation systems are required as platform technologies to facilitate the study of gene function in cereals. This work will provide optimised transformation procedures for wheat and Brachypodium distachyon It will also give insight into localisation of transgene products afforded by incorporating immuno-reactive tags and targeting leader sequences, together with new information on tissue-specific, inducible or developmentally regulated promoter sequences. This will enable more targeted research in relation to wheat grain development and composition as well as nutrient mobilisation and plant/pathogen interactions. We will set up service-level-agreements to cost and supply the transformation component for inhouse research projects and formal contracts for external collaborations.
