Abstract

The project involves the setting up and operation of the National Centre for Plant and Microbial Metabolomics. The work involves the analysis, initially by high-throughput NMR and LC-NMR-MS, and subsequently by GC-MS and LC-MS, of plant and microbial samples in relation to applications in functional genomics, diet and health and pharmaceutical research. The Centre will be based at Rothamsted Research but also incorporates bioinformatics and data handling at the University of Aberystwyth and FT-MS research at the University of Manchester. Once set-up the Centre will operate a service involving metabolomic data collection and advanced data analysis from contracted and collaborative projects as well as offering training for sample preparation, NMR and MS data collection.
