Abstract

Rapid metabolite fingerprinting and effective bioinformatics methods are essential to develop plant metabolomics to the stage where large-scale screens of mutants and other genetic resources can be used to provide gene function information. The project aims to develop NMR and MS fingerprinting in conjunction with machine learning, using `known¿ mutants of Arabidopsis as a training set prior to application of the techniques developed to collections of unknown mutants such as the ATIS gene tagged collection developed at the JIC. The project is a partnership with the University of Aberystwyth, University of York and JIC. The role of Rothamsted Research is in NMR fingerprinting, GC-MS and associated data-handling.
