Abstract
Genetics and post-genomics approaches are being used to analyse wheat developmental processes which contribute to yield and quality traits. Transcriptional analysis will identify genes which show characteristic spatial and temporal expression during specific developmental processes and indicate how patterns of gene expression respond to specific environmental stimuli. This research will identify candidate genes and promoters which will be used to dissect the molecular genetic basis for these traits. This knowledge will assist in the development of strategies for marker assisted breeding and transgenic approaches to improve wheat growth characteristics that positively influence agronomic characters.
