Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease occurs when normal restraints on immune reactivity to bacteria and food antigens in the gut break down. This project seeks to manipulate immune cells at mucosal surfaces using gene targetting technology. This work will lead to better understanding of molecular mechanisms which control immunity in the gut and could suggest new strategies for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
